Overview of the Rote: Rote is located in
the far east of Indonesia near West Timor, in contrast to areas
of Indonesia such as Sumatra where the landscape is green and
lush with a high rain fall and light winds, Rote receives
a very low rain fall and the landscape is more dry, however
like most areas of Indonesia the people are friendly, the culture
rich, the water warm and the waves are often perfect.
Waves: The main wave of focus is the long
wally lefts of Nemberala, however there are many other waves
on the surrounding islands, but access is only via boat, the
waves
Crowd
wise: In season T-land itself can get crowded, however
the wave itself is more suited to average surfers or older
surfers hence there is generally a laid back attitude in
the water and not the young ripping grom crowd of other places
in Indonesia.

Nemberala/T-Land- Is a long wally good quality
left, generally not a barrel more just a nice peeling wave
that breaks from 2 for 15 foot, some say the bigger it gets
the better, getting more hollow, its a good wave for average
surfers or older guys as it's also the kind of wave that you
can find yourself surfing at a bigger size than you normally
would, because it breaks at any size and any tide, it is fairly
consistent however because it sits so far east it does have
a smaller swell window than say Bali so doesn't catch straight
south swells very well.
The wave itself is some distance offshore requiring a very
long walk over the reef or a boat ride out, because it is so
far from land and rote is so far east it does get very windy
but the trade winds are straight offshore.

Boa- Long

better early, late or wet season.
Other waves- variety of other lefts and rights
reached only via fast boat or charter boat, charter boats also
surf Savu island located between Rote and Sumba.
A few charter boats include the rote
area as part of there trip, they normally also visit, Savu
island and Sumba ans some the other islands of Sumbawa or lombok.
